  • Romania

Romania is a country located at the crossroads of Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe It borders Ukraine to the north and east, Hungary to the west, Sibiya to the southwest, Bulgaria to the south, Bulgaria to the east, and the Black Sea to the southeast. It has a mainly continental climate, and an area of 238,397 km2 with a population of 19 million people. Romania is the twelfth-largest country in Europe and the sixth-most populous member state of the European Union.

The official language is Romanian, a Romance language, which presents a consistent degree of similarity to Aromanian, Megleno-Romanian, and Istro-Romanian, but shares many features equally with the rest of the Western Romance languages, specifically Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Catalan.

    Home of Dracula

Bran Castle is a castle in Bran. The castle was built by Saxons in 1377 who were given the privilege by Louis I of Hungary. It is a national monument and landmark in Transylvania. The fortress is on the Transylvanian side of the historical border with Wallachia, on road DN73.

Marketed outside Romania as Dracula’s Castle, it is presented as the home of the title character in Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula (1897). There is no evidence that Stoker knew anything about this castle, which has only tangential associations with Vlad the Impaler, voivode of Wallachia, whose byname ‘Drăculea’ resembles that of Dracula.

The castle is now a museum dedicated to displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie. Tourists can see the interior on their own or by a guided tour.

  • Coffee: Magical Bean Water

    The World of Coffee

With roots in Ethiopia and Yemen over 300 years ago, Coffee did not grow in popularity until America made it the drink of choice. This is closely linked to the history of our own country. After the tax from the Tea Act of 1775, America rejected Tea sold by the British East India Trading Company, and went to cheaper alternate coffee. This brought it to the masses, and began its march towards global domination.

    Types of Coffee

    Pourovers

The most popular form of coffee in the world is pourover. It is a process where you pour hot water over coffee in a paper filter. This process is the basis of the drip coffee machine. It yields a fast ok cup of coffee.

A famous coffeemaker that created the drip market is the Mr. Coffee. Have a listen:

    Percolated Coffee

The older brother to the modern day drip coffee machine is the percolator. It has 1 major downside, if it reseals the coffee multiple times it becomes more bitter. It was very uncommon to drink this with very little issue.

    Espresso

    Espresso is…

    A guide for espresso:

    Mika Pot

Before the modern high pressure espresso machine, there was still a way to make a higher pressure more caffeinated coffee than drip. It was called a Moka Pot. To use it, you would fill the bottom with water, a cup with coffee

  • Radiation: Is it really dangerous

Since the 1940’s we have always looked at radiation as the monster that had to be conquered or feared, but is it really as bad as science fiction would have you believe? let explore this concept.

    The Facts

Many people believe that Radiation Illnesses are a major factor for dying cancers, but the facts just don’t back this up.

    IllnessRate
    Skin Cancer60,000-90,000
    Smoking7,000,000(1.5m from secondhand smoke)
    Acute Radiation Syndrome60-100 SINCE WWII
Per Capita Mortality of different diseases

    The Truth

Radiation is a calculatable risk. We use certain tools to keep a safe measurement of risk, but in many cases, radioactive material that most people can gain access to it is not very dangerous. We have lived alongside it for thousands of years, and unless you are purposely collecting and storing it very incorrectly, it’s not dangerous.

“Unless you are purposely collecting and storing radioactive material very incorrectly, it’s not dangerous.”
